needle wheel pump and normal pump

I have a dymax skimmer but the pump is faulty. Can i use normal return pump?

If original pump is needle wheel, then it is advisable to use back a needle wheel pump. Normal pump is not able to produce that fine tiny bubble like the needle wheel does.

just change the impeller if the model of the pump is the same

My skimmer pump is dead.. So it's better to buy the pump or a new skimmer?

IMO, If the pump is less than 1/2 of the skimmer cost then replace the pump else replace to new skimmer.
