I used distilled water to check my refractometer when I do wc. It should read "0".

A good practice is to rinse the refractometer's glass portion after every test done to prevent residue salt after each use.

What abt those with atc? Mine states that when calibrating, ambient room temp need to be at 20deg. So if normal room temp in Singapore btwn 28-31deg, we can't do calibration of the refractometer cos it won't be accurate? Anyone can advise in this?

Stable 20deg c is impossible in our weather. That's why I choose to use salinity cal fluid...you can cal at room temperature with the fluid.

Atc is to make sure ur calibration result at 20c will be carried over when at other temperature. Means as long as u calibrate properly. The reading will be accurate at other temperature.

For the 20 degree room temperature, that is to make sure ur test water will be ard 20 degree also. In case refractormeter heat up test water.

I did making whole pail of ro di water to 20 degree. And cool down my meter to 20 degree also. The reading difference from 30 degree is a lot.

So now I only see if the new salt mix are same reading as tank water.....

Bro. If I am not wrong all the cal fluid needs to be used ard 20 to 25 degree.

Ok, what I did was blasting my room air con to the coldest. Using a room thermometer to read room temp to be btwn 20~21deg. Then I start to cal my refractometer using ro/di water. Is this method of calibrating correct?

Ok, when I cal refractometer to zero at 20deg using rodi water. When room temp go back to normal say at 30deg, the reading actually not at zero, slightly below zero. Is this normal or correct, bro?

I think it s correct. Otherwise no need to cal at 20 degree right? :)

But u can tell the difference is huge right?

Another thing can proof this is to follow dd salt instruction.

1kg salt mix with 25l water =35.5 sg

Can try

Ok, thanks. No huge difference and can see got a bit of difference. If there is reading below zero, I'll say its -0.1~0.2ppt.

So the best way is to mix own salt according to the instruction, then calibrate it? Or salinity cal fluid?

Correction for my claims.... the salinity cal fluid did indicate 35sg at 25deg... so optimum is to cal at 25deg. Again way easier and less error than using rodi water at 20deg.

Not sure. Feeling shouldnt be using that for refractometer.
Ok, juz not too sure if my refractometer is calibrated correctly. Thanks for the advises.
