Safe to remove coral chips from Sump

My middle sump compartment is filled with coral chips (at least 20kg) since my tank setup more than 1 year ago. Never had any problems with NO2 and NO3 (DSP in main tank).

Is it safe to remove the coral chips in stages from my sump? My tank sandbed and LR should be able to slowly adjust to teh new demands of treating Ammo, N02 right?

Much appreciate any helpful advise.... or should I adhere to the wise saying - if it ain't broken, don't fix it.....

Its certainly a good idea to remove the coral chips since your tank is already established.

Your system will appreciate the additional volume of water as buffer for any fluctuations.

Can consider taking the safe route by removing a small portions of it progressively over a few weeks. At least your system can catch up slowly.
