help on estimated cost of a new 5 ft marine tank

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As I have a 4ft tank myself, I never venture into the 5ft equipment as it was too expensive. I use to have a small nano tank in office , as we are shifting office , I have sell away my nano , yesterday my boss ask me to work out a budget for a 5ft x2x2 in new office to display in the receptionist area! OMG!

Please help as I have lost touch on those latest equipment in the market.

Think end up I am the one to do water change weeekly and take care the DI/RO unit! Sian!

1) 5x2x2 ft front crystal glass with sump and cabinet ---$____________

2) Chiller articia or teco or compressor? No china brand as I have bad experience$___________

3) Light - think T5 or metal halide will be good enough$_____________

4)Salt water tranfer of new water will be a headache as I do not wish to use NSW water for cycling bad experience for my 4ft prefer pre-mix salt water, but do they do delivery?

5)Skimmer- what type and what size? $_____________

6) prefer use FR like NP biopellets

7) return pump eheim size?______________

8) Live rock actually i prefer getting Fiji Live rock expensive but good ,

9) Wave maker controllable prefer tunze ( vortech is good but think will burst the budget)

$4k to $5k enough?

if I buy individual myself and set up myself will be cheaper but if I let LFS do evrything and get evrything from them will be abit expensive, what will be your suggestion?

bro dirtnitro, 4-5k i guess is not enough...

my 2ft cube tank (with 6ft cabinet) already comes to that figure..

An 1/3 artica chiller + a decent deltec skimmer (SC2060) + Lighting would probably cost you 4-5k already..

You may wish to check with some tank makers (Aquarium Artist, N30 etc..) as well as visit some local online stores (freshnmarine, onestopreef...etc) to work out the pricing for the equipment..

I reckon this would be a 5-figures setup :)

My 2cents is to find an LFS to quote and setup with warranty. The last thing you want is to *own* any problems that could occur, you know it, many things can go wrong with marine tank.

I agreed with bro m12345y, if any major problem occur and lead to disaster (touch wood*), u are answerable to your boss and thus be very perssurise on yourself.
