starting a 2ft marine tank budget

Recommended Posts

good morning,

i am new to maine fish keeping although now keeping freshwater fish arowana.

i have a spare 2x1x1.5 ft tank on a WI stand. and a evo 3w led x 6 light 10000k and 6700k.

wondering i can use my spare equipment to startup a budget marine tank for less than $100. What other equip do i need? i dun think my mr aqua OHF will be of any use?

maybe 2 fish and some live corals? i dunno what's the cost for the marine stock. btw in live in the west, any good lfs in the west?

Thanks in advance.

Start up cost for marine is quite high if you wish to maintain a good system. You need skimmer and wavemaker also. If you go tight budget can source for second. $100 it abit hard as you also need liverock, mech filter like coral chip. Coral itself some maybe cost you around $15 - $30. In the west is Marinelife at clementi. You need to read up more before you really start. Because it a no end road.

West also has Sea Life, at Bukit Merah.

Yup, I believe bro Sherman is referring to your OHF. If you mod your OHF to an ATS, then you should be able to do without a skimmer. I believe you'll need a wavemaker too. If you're looking for cheap I guess you can look at brands like sunsun. But IMO, should try to get reliable brands like tunze. You can look out in the pasar malam section, occasionally there are reefers letting go of their old wavemakers.

Do you have any form of filtration built in with the tank? Like an IOS or even external one like a cannister filter? You'll need filter media to house bacteria.

How thick is ur 2ft tank? Most freshwater 2ft tanks are too thin for marine.
