Celebrating 1,000 posts with current less than ideal fts after removing some huge heads of sps smothered by gha recently.

Still struggling with gha on certain spots if you can see them post-600-14361062892069_thumb.jpgpost-600-14361063466495_thumb.jpgpost-600-14361063615494_thumb.jpgpost-600-14361063790397_thumb.jpg

Always love this tank bro! Great to see your tank is still doing well after so long! Remember getting some frags from you way back when i had my 2ft.

I do find galaxy / chilli pepper type of montis grow really slow compared to the others.

Finally found a solution to my gha problem.

Fauna marine algaex!

Super effective man. After 2nd dose and 60% of my gha already gone. But do note that it will recur if there is no proper tank maintenance. Mine was due to phosphate leeching though and hope this will stem the problem permanently.

My fts before the algaex dosing.

Unfortunately, it killed my 2 tuxedo urchins and is said to affect clams too. My sps polyp extension lessen also and my frogspawn also did not expand so much now. Closely monitoring situation but it came to a point I'll rather lose some livestock just to wipe out gha!

All those with gha should give algaex a try! But again, remember the fundamentals of low phosphate and nitrate should already be in place for a long term solution

It's been frustrating updating my thread due to issues with tapa talk, thus the reason for MIA. Decided to just update this specially as I thought this phenomenon to be really interesting.

I have a suspicion that I'm witnessing a natural process of a lobo spillting itself into new heads. So exciting.

Just to add....my tank is finally gha free for the last 3 weeks.db1bfe5913913eb78d3be01b4d396598.jpg

3.5 years on and half the tank over run by the green star polyp. Decided to switch to more soft corals to withstand the invasion. Lost quite a few lps and sps as a result. Here's what is left.20161106_205656.thumb.jpg.e29fb1857e2ece

Hi Dechew, I'm no guru unfortunately but the more common ones are overfeeding, too many fishes, use of bio balls etc which has tendency to trap and create detritus. Try go ogling nitrate factories and you should see more tips. But it also depends on your system as I've seen systems with bio balls etc which tends to create nitrate but they have in place systems which can also efficiently convert the nitrate to nitrogen. Alternatively, can try those denitrate products for short term relief, but if it is systemic issue, it is best to deal at its root. Hope that helps.

Hi sry to diverts alittle from the subject. May I have some good pointers from the gurus on the methods to reduce nitrate if the phosphate is undetectable?

You can check out carbon dosing. I use white vinegar to bring down my nitrates from 30+ to ~1 ppm currently

And the curtain finally comes down on my 3.5 year old partition tank.

Thanks to bros who have been very easy to deal with in selling my equipments and live stock and an extremely steady bro who arranged the movers and took over my tank and cabinet.

Perfect win-win as I was just wanting to minimise cost so that the $$$ can be used to offset the mini renovation to the damaged walls and ceiling.that damage to my walls/false ceiling and a bro whom I gave the tank set to.

Lesson learnt after this experience is that I'll avoid a full partition tank. Thiugh extremely nice but the removal process is just to scary and resource intensive.

Thank you bros for all the words of encouragement and support all these while! I hope you have enjoyed my tank thread and hopefully found some inspiration from it as well.

Kudos to the company Tank Movers Aquatic Services for your help. You did gave me a couple of heart stopping moments to be honest but ultimately all went well and I'm glad you guys really know your stuff. Highly recommended tank mover.IMG-20161226-WA0008.thumb.jpeg.fdf2a0838IMG-20161226-WA0005.thumb.jpg.5481f2873b
