Mellow
Heart sank when I turned on skimmer and it didn't move at all. Realised the guys from DE aquatic didn't put in the impeller into the skimmer pump. Thankfully their service is good and agreed to drop off at my place Quote "Save a reef, grow your own"

Mellow
Kudos to Razali for personally coming by to pass me the impeller at my house. Thanks bro! And finally, I see milky white again! Personally find the bubble magus curve series is one of the most value for money skimmers around and also super easy to use. No tinkering of air intake etc! Mellow
Quick review: The Bm curve 9 skimmer broke in within 30 mins of running it. That's awesome considering I've had some skimmers which only break in after a few days. Below is what I have after 2 full days. I'm loving it! Mellow
3 weeks since I tried the elevated magnesium method, I still have not s much success as I wanted to eradicate the green hair algae. And worse still, some of my sps polyps are either not opening up like the orange digi shown below or stn from the bottom like my lime green staghorn. Current mg level at 1695 and calcium at 410 as of today. I think I shall just start lowering my mg already to normal levels and just bear with the gha by manual plucking. 1 Quote "Save a reef, grow your own"
Mellow
Super heart pain. Even my candycane which has been growing nicely last 2 years is slowly succumbing to being smothered by gha. I see the beginning of the end. Quote "Save a reef, grow your own"
SRC Supporter SubzeroLT Posted June 12, 2015 SRC Supporter Share Posted June 12, 2015 For the candy cane, perhaps you want to try to take it out of the tank. Pluck out as much GHA as possible. Then squirt hydrogen peroxide on the stem area a couple of rounds without touching the polyps if you are worried about hydrogen peroxide. Pretty sure the GHA will go away in 2-3 days there. Mellow
Interesting results from the triton lab tests. Nope I haven't given up my fight against gha and wanted to find if there's any issue with my water or is it really just the live rocks leeching phosphates. Here we go. Aluminium Is too high and iodine too low. Can't quite figure out what is the source for the super high Value for Se(Selenium) and Li (lithium). Don't even know what is Selenium. Any gurus can advise the possible source for these 2? Any also, what's the best way to remove aluminium? Polyfilter only way? Mellow
I think GFO helps to remove aluminium Thanks for sharing bro. I'm using the metasorb by 2 little fishes upon recommendation by my friend. Quite expensive product for that small little pouch of synthetic polymer but apparently it's quite good. Mellow
Did they recomend the remedy for those high readings Yup they do recommend remedy only for those levels which are lower than normal but I guess for a non triton system user liker myself (i consider mine more berlin method), it's really just adding those additives which are lacking. For those which are too high like my magnesium, im still relying on water changes to bring them down or those media absorbing unwanted stuff. Mellow
One month after I started the elevated magnesium dosing, I realise that the gha still cant be eradicated totally. The triton test also confimed that phosphate level in water column is negligible and conclusion is that the phosphates are leeching from my rocks/substrate. I'll just wait for all of it to leech out. In the last 1 month of elevated magnesium, I've also lost a couple of sps that has been with me for 2 years, most of them growing 4-6 times the size of the usual aquacultured sizes. They succumbed to either the smothering by the gha remnants or/and elevated magnesium. I've decided to stop having so many sps in my new mini rescape of the barren areas and replace with easier and more colourful corals. Guess not much time to care for tank also after arrival of my boy. Sighz. More pictures to follow of developments but here's what I bought over the weekend to replace those gone sps. Fiji green sinularia. At least it looks like some sps. May just convert this to lps/softie tank only at the rate I'm getting frustrated in the last 3-4 months. haha. Mellow
2 years on, it all came to nought. A look at this nice valida I bought in september 2013 and finally RIP. Just one of the 3 big heads of SPS that was lost recently. But somehow, the tank actually looks cleaner after removing these sps as there suddenly seems to be a lot more space and flow all over the tank. Not a bad thing to restart also I guess. Anyway, I decided to bleach the dead valida and use it as a home decoration as the shape got pretty nice. Will be planning to rescape a little bit in the coming months once things are more settled New beginning! Besides that, there's only the filter wool which I'll wash/change when required. Anyway, thanks for offering your sps bro. I think I want to hold off sps for a while until maybe the itch kicks in again. haha.Your galaxy monti frag is doing great in my tank though Quote "Save a reef, grow your own"

Mellow
Galaxy monti frag from reddevil growing nicely alongside this mini rbta. This species for rbta from aquamarin doesn't grow big at all which is fantastic. Adds colour without taking up space.
