Losing battle with algea since tank crash

Recommended Posts

Hi been noticing loads of red and green hair algea in my tank (not too sure if that is what they are called) after my tank crash some weeks back.

First test showed 0.1 ppm phosphate so i lowered it using Goodbye PO4 from henry. But for the last 2 days like got more and more algae. Today my measurement is:

no3: 2 ppm

po4: 0

no2: 0

For the green hair algae i am thinking of keeping it actually and throw into my new tank sump since it is all gathered on a rock.. what do you guys think??

U mentioned a crash, did u check for "dead bodies"?

The red algae looks like red slime u may need special medications to remove it completely... Can maybe try antibiotics too...

Regarding the green hair, my take would be to remove rather then keep..

Just my 2 cents worth la

your low nutrient is due to the HA as it is taking up all the nutrient, therefor not showing up on your test kit.

Remove the HA and siphon the red algae during WC.

Try to run phosphate remover media and regular water change with RO/DI water to reduce the nutrient.

Happy Reefing!

You can try the AntiRed or UltraLife red slime algae remover if it is really very bad, then do a water change when things are under control. Also try to improve flow to the areas.

If the hair algae is on the rock, easiest option is to remove tht rock. And do big water changes over the next week. Ur rocks may even be leeching phosphate out. Feed sparingly and remove any uneaten food. Improve ur flow and run rowa or any gfos. Things will improve but very slowly.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes

Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like.

For the longer hair plug them off manually outside your display tank.

For those shorter hair we can engage the help of snail, abalone, sea hare or yellow Tang
