Hi all. Just arrived home saw my small tank water looks very cloudy. Checked n found out my chiller pump was off since 36 hours ago due to water change.
Damnnnnnnn...
50% sps have gone ......
Temperature is 33 degree!

Not mixing salt water to do wc.
How abt the temperature? Should I directly bring down to 27 or 26? Or I should bring down to 29 for 1 day and 2 days later then adjust to 26?

Still got some birdnest. Pocci. And chalice and zoas not fully die off yet.

Thanks in advance
My condolences for ur loss... I would suggest setting it straight to 27C... Better to quickly bring them to comfort zone rather then prolong their suffering...

Bro,

Sorry to hear about this. Suggest u bring it down immediately. Sps usually dun survive above 30 degrees.

Thanks bro. Doing that.

Sorry to hear about your plight.

All the best!

Thanks bro. Lucky I got another tank. But sadly some sps doesnt have backup in another tank.

Appreciated ur advice bro. Have used all my frozen stuff to bring temperature down. Including ice block. frozen chicken. Lamp cube... all sealed in plastic bag.

Did 50% water change. Put in carbon. Light off (many sps were dead due to burned by light).
Believe all bacteria died also. Will dose bacteria for a week to see.
Keep you all updated.

Recording this lesson learnt

Btw, unless u 110% confirm dead may not necessary have lost all hope... Smthg similar happened to me previously when my office tank lost power for 3 days over a long weekend... Monday came in smell like shit, did water change, threw out obvious dead ones, change media, continue dosing bac and within a week all was better... It will be fine bro! Reef on!
Yep. Now I will never touch that. Will give it a red label.

sorry for your loss bro.. Whats the rationale behind switching off chiller during WC? for me i just leave it on..

Aih...ichy hands ah.... just didnt want to get pump dry run..

Have you taken the dead sps out?
Yes bro. Pic taken before that. Thanks for the advice.
Ok. Sorry for your loss.

If needed, maybe invest in a good live rock and put in your tank. More surface area for additional bacteria to thrive and work on your excess nutrients.

Happy Reefing,

Sorry for your loss bro. But like what jxlex said, never underestimate the will of sps. Sometimes, against all odds, they survive and come back stronger!
Good suggestions. Will do as I feel most bacteria dies.

Hows things.

Bro kelvin, all getting better?

sad to hear that bro kelvin, hope you will recover with just minor scratches. so that i can pick up more frags fro you soon. cheers!

Thanks Eric.

updates:

did 2nd time 50% water change, and put in another 500g carbon, so far no more bad smell.

did a count, lost 90% sps on rock and on frag stand, around 12 different sps types.

survivers are monti, pocci, red milli, zoas and acans. and fishes

will give 1 month time to circle and let the bacterial system recover...

very sad for the lost as this tank is growing to be excellent, i planted many type of frags on the rock and aiming to get them overgrow till touch the 4 sides of glass.. but died after 6 months....

But never mind, great lesson learnt.

and now planning a new tank theme! (let them overgrow till touching the roof! lol, kidding)

it may be a good time to start a 1st thread for my tank...

thank all for your support and encouraging message!
