Radioactive Pocci Tissue loss

hi all,

my pocci been acting weird, some of the bottom part has been "sloughing" tissue. it is not tissue necrosis (i have had my fair share of that thank you), but rather the "sloughing" even still has PE! tissue loss is slower than stn and so far it affects only the lower part where it receive less light(not no light but rather lesser light compared to the rest of the colony). the problem is that the living tissue with healthy PE has been sloughing off for no apparent reason.

my params

no3 0

po4 0

CA 440

KH 7

mg 1350

temp 26C

salinity 1.024

no changes done to tank in 48 hrs, however, i dose potassium (brightwell potassion) a day ago. the rest of the sps, mille, stylo, tenuis, hoeksemai, pink pocci, bonsai etc has no problem with PE.

i have no plans to start fragging the colony...i was thinking i should just leave it alone and hope for the best.

from the pic, you can see that the colony has superb PE and yet the part has turned bald, a small piece of tissue still with full PE is coming off as i type.

hope to get advice from some gurus

unfortunately i did not measure k levels before dosing, but i dosed only 1/2 of the recommended amounts.

this is a pretty isolated case cos i cant seem to find any threads on RC re this issue. i am going to continue monitoring and add carbon tonight.

will keep the thread updated and hopefully allow sps keepers to learn something out of this case.

Might wanna check before dosing... I use another brand so i dose base on what i need to increase k levels...

Yup seems like really unique case, updates will be good:)

On a side note, I have read that symptoms of k overdose would first result on loss of/ retracted PE as though the coral is out of water and continued elevated levels of k eventually becomes fatal.

But my case is different because the pocci is still having full PE as the tissue sloughs off.

I have checked for pests by taking it out to have a closer look as well as doing guard duty over it at night.

Sps sometimes can be... Like a finicky woman! Lol

Lol... And like women, sometimes giving them too much attention will spoil them... Worse, u start getting sick of them... Hahaha... :P

Anyway also watch out for "burnt" tips due to over dose... Burn as in white with no polyps... No like new growth ;)

Thanks for the advice bro. I won't be doing anything drastic because I do not want to stress it further. Going to adopt the sit and wait approach and see if there are inprovements. Last resort would be to frag the colony.
