Did these guys design the reflector for you?

I was thinking that it could have been designed better coz the restrike seems quite high.

Perhaps Alvy or Phang or Robe could give a parabolic DIY design plan? :)

The Shape of the hood is similar to the photo

The bottom flat part is just wide enough to mount the brackets and bulb socket

The outermost bend is outwards and not straight in order not to limit the light

The reflector is mounted 3mm away from the hood so that the hood will be cool .. infact you can put on hand on the hood, it feels abit warm only

I was thinking that the bottom could be flat to accomodate the mogul socket but where the bulb would be against.... would have a pointed angle like an inverted V eg.

V

O = bulb

This prevents restrike (light reflecting back onto the bulb)... and the light could go somewhere else where it's needed!

I dont understand leh

The bottom must be flat for the bracket but how to make it inverted V?

If you make too many bends in the mainhood .. firstly the workmanship cost you much more, secondly the ends will be very hard to fabricate as you have multiple angles then you will have probelms having a perfect fit

I am thinking of DIYing a 2 X 150W Iwasaki 20K unit for my 4 footer. I am toying with the idea of using my present ocean free 4 feet hood for 2 FL tube and convert it to house the 2 MH unit. Is it feasible? I went to EYE lighting, saw the bulb and like it. Just thinking if housing the MH bulbs in the Ocean Free FL hood would be alright.

I think (marine) therefore I am

Hi Chris,

that is exactly what I am doing. I'm using a old FL hood to house 2 x FL, 2 x MH and 1 x Moonlight. A bit tight but with some creativity, yes it can be done.

Comments are welcome!

Hi BarraCuda™,

How much you spend on your DIY MH? I am interested. I currently a 4ft casing with reflector to convert hope to learn from you. I know nothing about DIYing MH. Advise appreciated

Hope to do 1x 250W or 2 X 150W.
