Is FR necessary?

Recommended Posts

Just need some advise:

1. Do i need a fludized reactor to remove PO4, if i am growing macroalgae within the refugium?

2. Izzit true if the phosphates are lowered below a certain point, the macroalgae will die off.

3. Any idea if SPS needs a very low level of phosphates to survive (Much lower than that of Macroalgae)?

Thks!

My advice ;

1. Do i need a fludized reactor to remove PO4, if i am growing macroalgae within the refugium?

- Good to have , but not 100% necessary for your P04 remover. Howver, it will make your media run more effectively. Unless your macroalgae grew very fast, if not you would still have problem of nutrient in your system. A good way is to get a test kit to monitor your P04 until you think is necessary to add additional remover.

2. Izzit true if the phosphates are lowered below a certain point, the macroalgae will die off.

- Yes in certain way as P04 and nitrate are food / fertilizer for the plant. But it is almost impossible to have a zero nutrient tank unless you dont keep anything in it .

3. Any idea if SPS needs a very low level of phosphates to survive (Much lower than that of Macroalgae)?

- All coral will only thrive in low phosphate level, but for more demanding coral like SPS, the phosphate level have to maintain lower .

thanks for the info bro harlequin! That explains why my macro algae dies off after dosing Phosbuster and reducing PO4 to low levels.

Moorish Idol has to be the most beautiful fish ever! :thumbsup:
