My 2.5 ft tank consistently has high nitrate level of greater than 40ppm. Someone suggests I can keep a couple of Clams to reduce the nitrate level naturally (if others parameter & equiping remains).

Questions:-

1. Will keeping Clams help to reduce nitrate ? Do they need

additional supplements beside the left-over from Fish/Coral feeds

2. I have existing 4x24W PL 12K & 1x18W Actinic. Will this lighting

sufficient to maintain the 'intense coloration' that we always seen

in books.

3. Have seen a lots of LFS with propoer equipment & lighting

displaying clams but after a while most of the color Faded away.

Why ?

4. Will Flame Angel peck at the clam ?

5. Which is the easier types to maintain successfully ?

6. What is the typical cost ?

Thanks

Keeping clams will not help to reduce nitrates to a significant extent. There are easier ways to reduce nitrates. Your lights are too weak for clams anyway. Angels will eventually develope a taste for clams.

2.5 ft tank with DSB will look quite ugly...not sure that's what you want to do..consider setting up a refugium below, use a I-box if no proper piping installed already.
