Return pump advice

hi everyone, i need advise on which pump to use for my 4x2x2..

Looking at ehiem 1262 or 1264....

Which is more apporiate?

Basically the higher flow rates the better. All depends on your budget. Setup. How many wave maker intend to have. How much rocks scape

Hi, are you setting up a new tank?

What size are your drains? No point using a big return if your drains are small..

I'm using 2 x 1" drains and I have to scale down my 1262..

Personally, I think a small return pump will be sufficient if you have additional wave makers in the display.

As you already have 2 wave makers, I'd suggest going for a smaller return.

IMHO, the main purpose of return is not creating wave, but circulating the water enough to bring debris and organic waste to the sump for skimming. It does more than just creating wave. For me, the bigger the better.... My tank 3x2x2, 1x1264 and 1x1262, still thinking to upgrade 1262 to 1264...

Same tank as yours,my return 1264. For me the pump is strong enough for return. Of cos good to add wave makers, for extra flow and also to reduce dead spots.

I prefer high flow return pump to maximize the water turnover rate. As for pump model its personal preferences, ehiem has never fail on me so I uses it. My small 250L tank is running on ehiem 1264 for return with mp40, tunze 6025 & 6065 for internal circulation. Still thinking of adding another mp40 to remove some dead spots where detritus collect.

Ehiem 1264 will be good for your 4x2x2. Go for it.

Recommended circulating of 10x in the display tank, work from there! But be sure that your overflow matching too, to assist this can adjust one of your wavemaker to create flow toward the IOS as well as the size for the drian pipe.
