Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

A friend of mine is very interested to keep anemone, thought this is the best place to get answers as I have no experince with them (More into Horses).

Would appreciate if you could advise on:

1) Name (Comon & Scientific)

2) Pictures (If possible so that we can identify)

3) Where to buy & how much they cost

4) Basic husbandry

BTW, he has already cycled his 2ft tank awaiting for advises the above issues.

Thank you all in advance!

Cheers, :D:thanks:

Agree that anemone are difficult to keep and is not for beginner.

As what xiggie said it requires good lighting and good water condition.

From what I have read and from my experience I recommend Bubble tip anemone.

I am keeping this type of anemone for almost 6 months in my 2 ft tank under 2 x 55 watts PL lights and fortunately until now still alive and kicking.

I feed them twice a week with market prawn or sliced of fish.

Is a good host for maroon and tomato clownfish too. :D

Advice to read the following website for more information:

actually the more ready your tank is the more it is well stocked with your precious fishes and corals, the less you want ot keep an anemone...definitely not for beginners ...even exp reefers shun it....

never know what will happen, when it gets caught in powerhead, it could crash your tank if sytem is small.

another thing beginners like to buy...seaapple and cucumber, maybe a talking piece but best avoid ;)

If intend to keep anemones, don't keep any other corals. They will stink other. Don't have a powerhead as they can get suck in and crash your whole tank. The trick is w/o powerhead, still must have good water circulation! If overflow, mush gate it or ane will crawl into overflow and cause tank to crash again. Of course, cannot forget good water parameters and strong light. At least T5 for 2 ft tank. Last but not least, must feed but cannot feed too much.

End of day.....you get stressed instead of the tank relieving your stress. :P

For a start, go for simple soft corals like mushrooms and leather. No feeding needed. Only need PL lights and moderate current. Tube-worm also good. Your clown may even host the tube worm if it is bushy enough. :D

I think (marine) therefore I am

I love Anemone.

I have red carpet which reproduce or split into 2

I also have the normal buble tip anemone.

Finally, last weekend I found PINK Anemone.

I have keeping a look on these pink Anemone.

Saw one in the Pasir Ris show tank and they say many people are in their long waiting list. Most people has been waiting more than a year but stock never come.

They also say that the price can fetch as much as 200 bucks.

Anyway, my pink anemone is trying to adpat to my Tank.

Once opened up, I will post a picture.

The bubble anemone is my second anemone. Both always get out of direct lights. i am using MH.

Or maybe I happened to get both not keen in getting dark-skinned.

Sorri, bro. I'm not targetting at u. Anemone do need strong lights to be healthy and it will benefit from some feedings. Anemome definitely do not scare of lights. They also have Zooanthd (spellings mistake) in them that will perform photosynthesis.
