Filter foam/wool vs filter bag

Recommended Posts

Hi brothers,

I need some advices on mechanical filtration.

1) Which one is better? filter foam/wool vs. filter bag?

2) Filter bags come with different micron, I believe the smaller the number the smaller is the pore size? If yes, isnt the smallest micron the best since it can be used to trap the smallest of particles.

3) I heard filter bags can be washed and reused. Any guidelines as to when to replace them?

Thank you.

Regards,
Jeff

Aquarium: 48" x 18" x 24" tank with 24" x 15" x 15" sump (approx. 150 gallons)
Equipment: Maxspect Razor 320W, Vortech MP40, Vertex Omega 180i, Eheim 1262 return pump, Hailea HS 66A, Bacteria King
Fish and coral food: Henry's Reefgourmet pellets, Preis coral energizer, Kent Marine PhytoPlex, Brightwell Reef Snow, Two-Little Fishies Marine Snow
Dosage: Triton Elements

Filter bag can filter particles up to micron and some online site even said that it is so fine that it can even filter off parasites in the water.

However, the bad side of it tends to choke easily so prepare to take it out to wash regularly.

Hope it helps
