because it's depleating... if people continue buying corals without due care, soon, there would be no more reefs! <_<

The world is such a wicked place, war btween the human race. People work to earn their bread, while across the sea they're counting dead

I agree.. :)

Besides, corals r beautiful and should be well taken care of. ;)

However at a part of our mind we still have to think of saving our planet. :o

i'm 14. i see the need to conserve because i like them. but what are the other reasons? if they r depleted, does it have any impact on us? e.g if forests are depleted, the results will be like global warming etc. wad about coral reefs?

I've read somewhere which says that Coral Reefs provide baby fishes with shelter n food. Under the refuge of these reefs, they are able to grow and mature with lesser threats from larger predatory fishes.

It serves a bit like a nursery for the fishes. So it in turn ensures a stable population of fish. [1] To maintain one of our source of food and [2] To ensure a balanced ecosystem.

I may have read wrongly, if i really did say anything wrong plz spare me.:P

Coral reefs are often described as the forests of the sea, because of the many organisms that live on them. There is no doubt that reefs are in serious trouble today. More than half of the world’s reefs are considered to be threatened by human activities. Natural disasters, such as hurricanes and diseases, man-made disasters like over-fishing, heavy dive traffic, anchors of ships, pollution, coupled with the use of blasted limestone to build buildings, docks and oil rigs have also taken their toil on reefs. The many fascinating organisms that thrive on these reefs have stunned many divers. If all these organisms are destroyed, the food chain will be greatly disturbed. A lot of the seafood we consume is also from reefs. Many people living near coral reefs also depend on these interesting structures as a source of food and income. Reefs are the symbol of culture and heritage in some countries such as the Maldives. They also help to protect the shorelines from erosion. It is imperative that a greater understanding and appreciation of this beautiful Nature’s gift be developed.
