Chiller takes very long to chill

My new resun cl-280 takes very long to chill even 1 degree when first operational. about 20 mins to chill from 32 to 31 degrees? and another 30 mins to chill from 31 to 30 degrees?

thats 1 hour to chill 2 degrees. using a 2000lph atman pump. flowrate should be fast enough.

what seems to be the problem? external thermostat required?

thanks all.

How long does it normally take to chill one or two degrees for example? Read that for my chillers model, 2000lph is ideal

Time taken to chill down 1 degree depends on few factors. Tank heat load, tank water vol etc. My resun 450 takes about 15min to chill down 1 degree and rest for about 45min. To see if u are using the right chiller, worse case is running time vs standby time is 1 : 1. Example if your chiller run for 2 hrs but rest for only 1 hr, then high chance your chiller is undersize or due for gas top up.

2000l/hr is for bigger hp like 1/4 or 1/2hp. Not sure where u read it, but online states cl280 pump required is 500l/hr

Hi bro,

Nothing much to worry about... Naturally, it will take awhile for the chiller to chill down your entire water volume for the first operational. Once the entire volume of water run through the chiller, eventually you will notice the kick-in time will decrease. Resun CL280 pump recommendation is only 1500L/hr and you have mentioned yours is 2000L/hr, then should be enough unless you have a T-connection that can lower the flow rate. HTH

This chiller should be used for 3ft or smaller tank....any bigger will be not effective to cool down the tank. Average temperature ts 27deg and cool-down around 30-45 mins.... standby time 1-2hrs

From my experience, the ambience temperature will also affect the rate of chilling down the water. And where chiller is being placed. Heat produced by equipment will also add on to it.

Like what the other has advise, higher LPH does not mean a faster cool down length. Modifying with an external thermostat and taking temperature reading straight from the tank will ensure a more accurate temperature reading.
