sunnymau
Hi bro and sis, Need some advise here. I had acquired a colony of BN few months back. It is a wild colony. The colony has grown from a small colony to a colony bigger than 2fits together. I frag it once about 2 months ago as I discovered STN in the middle of the colony to prevent it from spreading. The fraged area recovered well with good PE. However recently the area that i fraged shows STN again very slowly. However the colony is still doing very well with good colour and growth. Will the STN stop? or should i frag it? really cant bear to frag it as it has a very nice shape now...
sunnymau
Btw all baseline para is in check and all other sps have good colour and growth. I pretty sure it is not the water chem. what could be the reason?
SRC Member lawchan77 Posted February 27, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2013 if the STN is continuing to spread, its better to frag in an attempt to save it. you may also consider dipping into coral RX to get rid of any pests. if a stable sps deteriorates out of the blue is usally a sign of pest. Thanks bro, will try to get RX today and see if it helps. The way it STN is rather unusual. It does not just turn white and show the skeleton, I do see things like tissues coming out b4 turning white..
SRC Member sunny03 Posted February 27, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2013 I think is not enough flow or light to the centre of the birdnest colony. I often get this problem when bird nest grow bigger and denser.. where lights and flow cant reach Quote Selling big game fishing equipment. SRC Member lawchan77 Posted February 27, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2013 if the coral is dying due to no light, you shouldnt be able to see tisssue loss. SRC TOTQ Winner bellinayu Posted February 27, 2013 SRC TOTQ Winner Share Posted February 27, 2013 I also think it's due to lights and flow not reaching it. Have not encountered pests on birdnest. My birdnest and pocci also face the problem when it's too dense. I don't frag it cos I don't want to loose the shape. Once you frag it, the colony will break to pcs. SRC Member sunny03 Posted February 27, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted February 27, 2013 There is a trick to frag and stay at colony size or shape. . What I do is frag and then stick the frags again to the shape or size I like with glue gel. After some time the sps will over grown the harden gel... Quote Selling big game fishing equipment. SRC Member james72 Posted March 1, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted March 1, 2013 Should be flow. Flow can help prevent stn from Insufficient light.
