They are expensive not because they are nice. They are pricey because of their rarity and the difficulty (very deep) to collect some of them.

They only get that deep fiery red color when they reach a big size (>4").

Young fish are just largely pale yellow with gold dots and a light pinkish belly.

Shown here is one about 9cm. It's pale yellow colored with some light pink.

I hear the carmabi 's colors are so intense that cameras have to down-expose to capture. Is this true? Most colorful fish in the ocean?
