Calcium reactor and CO2

I have an unanswered question..

When using a calcium reactor, do I have to install the Co2 cylinder also? Is it a must? Any other cheaper alternative????

Can try at freshwater lfs. Cant rmb exact price but its around 100+ 200 for 2L tank with normal regulator when i was doing planted tank last time. Solenoid regulators will cost more. Oh ya, can try 2nd hand tanks from freshwater forums.
