Need some help, i bought a purple tang and qt for 3 weeks with no signs.

Added 2 clowns and a mandarin as i was transferring tanks.

Found some white spots appearing on my PT after so started paraguard.

On the 3rd day, the pt starts developing more spots and couple of lateral lines across the body.

PT is eating well but darts around.

I have changed out 80% of water and added carbon yesterday.

Is it safe to add in cupramine today?

Newbie Tank Specs:

Tank size: 322

Main return pump: 1 X RO DC 10K

Added in cupramine according to instruction but copper test results shows 0. Added 20% more.

Add the copper slowly over a few day of possible so as not to cause too much stress to your fish. Once the correct dose achieve, the white spot should be gone on day 3 or 4. But I would maintain it for another 2 day to be sure.

Puzzled as my api copper test is still showing 0??

Does seachem cupramine contain copper?

Should i get another test kit?

thanks.

I'm using JBL copper testkit not sure how accurate but giving very consistent reading every time ... If u have LR , sand , bioring etc will adsorb copper and need dose atleast 2x or more from the instruction from Seachem cuppramine to reach 0.45mg from JBL testkit reading ... from my observation under copper treatment , the whitespot still appear on fish body and when the whitespot go off will come back 2nd time about 7~10 days if the copper level at 0.2~0.3mg but will not come back at the 3rd time so assume ich life cycle is 7~10 days under 27C ... if 0.45mg that will not come back 2nd time ... Tested Morish Idol can not survive more than 0.2mg and multibar drawf angel too ... not sure how accurate JBL testkit but i use it as reference because salifert testkit not consistent and some time useless even b4 expiry ...

Remove the carbon during copper treatment. If not, the carbon will absorb the copper,

Slowly increase the copper level by dosing a bit every days to prevent stress to the fish.

It takes more dose, as it is absorbed by the sand and rock. Once reached the desired level, I suggest maintain this level for 14 days before decreasing slowly through water change.

Did not dose since yesterday but measured 3rd time 0 for copper. Going to dose more and crossed my fingers.

No sand, rock, carbon. Guess i have to trust my API test kit.

tEc" post="1088279" timestamp="1359472555"]Take a pail of saltwater and dose copper in it. See if u can get reading from your test kit. If still 0 then most likely your testkit is faulty
Why didn't think of that...silly me...

getting really confused...

Followed vtec advice, 5ml of ro water, dose 5 drops cupramine directly and test.

Result is dark green solution which is not within the color chart :ooh:

I am using API copper test kit, API should be not a problem, just slowly dose the copper and measure. Each day I dose the amount that corresponded the volume of water. It takes more than 5 days to reach the desired level. Also observe the ANN as copper may effect the ANN that resulted in ammonia poisoning.

That is too high concentration,..

just a point to note:

Remember to read the API Copper test kit from top, not side way ;)

right on the point bro :agreed: . although i rather use salifert test kits for testing copper since its easier to read and rather more accurate.

btw bro yauc, do watch your ammonia levels since PT alone would be a heavy bioload on the QT unless the tank is big enough. and if u plan to do water changes, remember ur copper level will be reduced cause of that.

cheers.
