Hi,

I found out my clown fishes have itch this morning. I have remove them and put them into the quarantine tank.

Have anyone use this brand "Cupramine" (Copper) before?

It mention that after 48 hours, dose 0.5mg/litre which i don't quite understand.

Also, will the itch stays in the display tank? Currently there are no fishes in the tank except snails and live rock?

Do i have to recycle the water in the display tank?

It's good that you have isolated the affected fish in the QT. It's even better to hear that there are no other fish in your display tank. Now, to be absolutely sure of ridding the ich parasite in your DT, leave it fishless for 4 weeks minimum. This is to break the life cycle of the parasites. Cupramin is the most effective cure for ich, when dosing rules are followed religiously. A good preventive measure would be to QT all incoming fish for 4 weeks moving forward. And remember not to add any water from the lfs that comes with the bag of corals or fish that you buy.. Good luck.

Thanks for the advise.

If the white inch disappear on the clown fish, do i still need to add in the dosing?

Also, the bottle mentioned to monitor for 48 hours, then add in 0.5mg/L, how much is 0.5 mg?

Also, after 4 weeks, i decided to get more fishes to put in the QT, do i need to add anymore copper solution?

Lastly, regarding about the DT, will it be alright if i add in the cleaning crew such as prawn? There are around 7 snails already in the QT before the outbreak of the white inch.

I would continue the dose accordingly for complete eradication. 0.5mg should be 0.5ml. Just get the total volume of water and then multiply by 0.5ml for the dosage required. Do remember to empty and wash the QT tank dosed with copper after the course of treatment. Some people will QT the fish for a day or 2 with copper, but I won't do it. Observe the fish in the QT, only if required, then diagnose and administer appropriate treatment. You can actually start buy new fish now already for QT. :) Yes you can add shrimps and snails into the DT. Ich parasites will not host on them. Cheers.

just my review of using cupramine, according to directions, its says to dose 1ml of copper per 40L of water. If your QT is 80L, dose 2ml for 1st day. 0.5mg is the copper concentration. It is the same as 0.5ppm. Always use a good copper test kit if you are unsure on how much to dose. For me, i will leave the concentration below 0.5ppm. this is good enough to kill ich. To be safe, maintain this concentration for 3 weeks. if your copper remain at the correct concentration, u dont have to redose copper. All the best.

Hi,

Do you mean that if the test kit show 0.5ppm, i should leave it as it is.

If it is less than 0.5ppm, then i should add in a bit more of the copper solution?

Hi,

I measured the water yesterday, the kit result is around 0ppm.

Does it mean that i should add in a bit more copper solution?
