Brown & Fat SPS Polyps

I observed that a number of my SPS are having quite big and fat polyps extension, but they are brown. Is it caused by high NO3 or PO4?

many factors.. but mainly may due to lighting.

The coral colours are there, but just that the polyps are brown and fat. I used MH 250W BLV (5hrs) + 4 tubes of ATI blue plus (8hrs) on a 2ft cube..

Check nutrient levels, NO3 should be undetectable n pO4 <0.04 ppm w a reliable test kit... Hope it helps

Or could be the coral polyps by default is that colour

Poly extension is ok. Look health. Color brown may due to water quality.

any idea how to improve the water quality?

I am running biopellets/rowaphos and some bacteria king media. I have been thinking of cleaning up the sands.. but lazy. haha..
