Hi dudes, got this low CA/KH problem...

My levels are at 320 and 8.0, and i dont tink i can raise them much by using Kalkwasser, unless i evaporated a ton of water each day?

Are there any other non PH-affecting additives around dat i could use? RC talks abt using B-ionic and C-balance etc, but i dont seem to have seen it in our LFS here?

Please give me yr advice, esp if u have another suggestion on how to raise the levels eventually to my targetted 400 and 9plus...

Thanx!

>Assillian---I use Seachem Reef Builder and Reef Advantage Ca to raise mine.. and now maintained at 420mg and 10dkH

I need to use balanced additives so dat i dont get the levels skewed towards any sides...

>SharkBait---Water change?

I'm tinking very hard abt doing this, cause instead of spending time and money on testing and using 2-parts or one part additives, i might as well do a 50% water change over 2 days....wouldnt cost me more than a bottle of 2-part i guess...

But i fear the corals might not like it, i'd probably have to change the water slowly...

Thanx, any more suggestions? Anywhere i can find balanced additives?

:erm:

Other than kalk, the best way to raise them together will be to use Two-part solutions.

SOrry to ride on this thread.

I running 400 for my cal but my kh level is like 6. It plunges quite a bit from 9 to 7 thru a week and my DIY water top off with kalk cant seem to keep it up. I boost up the kh levels with sodium bicarbonate. Any long term ill effects from such dosing?

Junyong,

Two-parts are added to the tank in equal volumes. One solution for Calcium and the other for alkalinity. They should be added at least half and hour apart. There are many brands out there but I've haven't tried any yet. Just follow the instruction. Two-parts can be used for maintenance too once the desired level of both calcium and alkalinity is reached.

riot,

Long term use of sodium bicarbonate without water change, thing affected is the ionic inbalance of the water due to excess sodium.

i have also fought this low kh and ca battle for a long time. IMO the best way is to go for a Calcium Reactor. Raise the kh and Ca to yr desired level and maintain both using Ca Reactor assuming the Ca Reactor capacity is good for your tank.
