question on DI water

hi all

Need an info bout DI water

Juz bought a 3 stage Di unit set

From a reefer

Hav install it today and hav fill up 1 pail of water

But the problem is there is a kind of smell coming from

The water!

Is this normal?

Btw the 3 stage unit is also connected from my 1 stage water

Filter ( bought this from a hardware store)

Any reefer hav experience this?

Decided not using the water to top up for my hospital tank!

U might want to check the water parameter 1st before u use it.

Filter u can get from madpetz.

Did you change to new cartridges and media? Smell may come from old resins or media used. Stage 1 should be sediment which is yr existing filter. You can put stage 2 : carbon and stage 3 & 4 : DI media. Buy a Tds meter to measure yr Tds reading.

I change the resin every 3-4 months for normal usage, that is top up water and 10% water change every month. my tank 4x2x2

Hav check the water perimeter from tds meter reads 66ppm

Decided not to use the water cause of the foul smell

Going to buy the the replacement resin from madpets

Was told only madpets hav the replacement resin

Any other brand can fit for ZERO di unit?

That is really high. Media probably exhausted and needs to be replaced. Buy the carbon and di resin from madpetz

Already bought the resin & replace it

Normal dripping 1/3 of pail tds measured 40ppm

Now trying super slow dripping!!

Did u calibrate ur TDS meter? 40ppm still seems pretty high considering new cartridges are being used.

I use another brand and able tks bring down from 50+ppm to 0ppm

On a separate note I find that if I do not keep the water flowing in the filter, it spoils quickly!

Then its best u check the cartridges or installation bro... Can't be that high after running through them... Or did u only replace the carbon n not the Di/ro resin?

Btw u can actually set it on slow flow bro, no need to drip... This as long as the system n resins are working

Had follow the same way
