Hi guy,

I may want to try diying a small sump tank of 40x28x34cm with the thickness of 4mm or 5mm acrylic sheet but was discouraged by the guy from

Ying Kwang Acrylic Trading. He adviced me to use 10mm instead as reason given was tank will forge after addition of water.

What do you guy think? Should I go ahead for 4mm or 10mm?

.

  • 2 weeks later...

10mm will be advisable.

however advise to go for a glass sump. not so easily scratched.

For display tank, I agree but not sump tank. Basically, the sump is small and mostly half emptied so I strongly believe 5mm should be enstuff lo.. .

DIY is my hobby and by using acrylic, I can design, plan and process my own unique master piece mah :yeah: !

Me also doing overhead sump instead. Done all the acrylic cut , left only glue and drill hole.

And I am using 4mm acrylic

yes...minimum 4mm for sump but I chose 5mm to be more safer  .

I have bought many pre-cut acrylic from DAMA since 2008 and the price is very reasonable. Too bad that they don't carry Weld-on product any more  which I personnally feel that it's very good acrylic adhesive glue to work with  .
