Rajandra
Hi, Ive been using ozone in my tank which was connected to my skimmer for the last one week or so. The initial reading was 190 (before ozone supply). And now the reading is at 200. Is it normal for ORP to increase in such a low phase? im using a generator capacity 200mg/hr with air dryer. Comment and advice from reefers who are using ozone in their system are appreciated. Thanks.
Kakani
I am using Ozone for my tank last time. My orp go up to around 400. It is best to maintain ORP below 450. You can adjust your ozone high but need to mointor. If you have some funny smell coming from your tank better turn it down. Please use ozone tubing because normal rubber tubing will burn. Gouldian
When use Ozone, try to use salt-mix that is low is bromide as bromide will react with salt water to form bromade which is a powerful oxidizer that remains is salt water much longer than needed. - http://books.google.com.sg/books?id=WYP5k7xGCxgC&pg=PA52&lpg=PA52&dq=bromate++reef+fishes&source=bl&ots=-cexD6kfTn&sig=mNV2wzLQBHlAhBYaAtl9GMCBKXM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=cMPbUOeXB5CyrAeN8IDIAw&ved=0CEoQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=bromate%20%20reef%20fishes&f=false - http://www.microbelift.com/products/home-aquarium/salts/reef-salt/ Quote "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Dr. J.E.N. Gouldian
Thanks for the info. By the way how long does it takes for you to get the ORP to 400? ORP is suppress by decomposition of organics and lack of flow. If the former 2 issues are addressed, your ORP will be increase within several hours. I have not tested by ORP for quite a while but I have experienced several times where I register a 100 increase within 3 hours unless I have something died in my tank. Thus, I only on my ozone 2-3 hours daily during normal situation and will on overnight when i suspect the water condition is not ideal. Gouldian
After reading, looks like very dangerous when using.. I wouldnt want to breath in any leakages. Actually ordinary machines such as copier produces hefty amount of ozone too, that why you smell a sweet smell when the machine is operating. In fact, most hotels toilets uses even more ozone to keep the toilet bad smell away. Nevertheless it is always good to err on the safe side. Most reefers will off their ozone after sweet the smell. Im using Ozone reactor from Si-am Ocean which comes with carbon chamber. Im not dare to risk my BK skimmer. Now the ORP increased to 255 this morning. I had 2 dead clown under the LR which impossible for me to remove. Probably that is the reason the ORP was so slow to increase.

Bro, how long will you maintain orp at 400mV? Will high orp kills off all bacteria including good ones? I understand that high orp, all algae issues will be resolved but will that affect the refugium?

I understand that high orp, all algae issues will be resolved but will that affect the refugium? I heard from some senior no real proven say it will kill all good bacteria. But i believe some good bacteria will be kill. Ozone is very good because it can maintian very clean water. For algae issue not so sure i normally use rowaphos or GFO to control my algae issue. Refugium should not be affected unless your tank really P04 0 inorganic and organic. Maybe you should try it out and let us know about the outcome. I would recommand maintain at 400 don't go above and what other senior say put carbon and change it monthly.

Currently, my main tank still on going scaping. I've tested my main tank current orp only about 80 mV.
