funny question... when there's evaporation every tank, be it the sump refrigium, main tank, will have the same salinity increase.. thats because they are all connected. So topup anywhere is the same. But topup in the sump would be better coz its always hidden away right?

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

IMO anywhere in the OPEN will evaporate first but still its connected and you will not tell the diff...overhead or under...

ok...

since your sump works like OHF...

you mean that the water in the sump overflows back into the tank is it?

if so then the sump's water level will be constant cuz the water has to over flow right?

thus it would mean that the drop in water level will be most obvious in your main tank.

meaning you set up your tubby float switches in main tank... ;)

thats what i think lah...

what you can do is use some whiteboard marker and mark the water levels over the next few days and note where the drop is the most noticable...

just my thoughts... i may be wrong!

and whats up with the silicone?

thought they were simple suction cups... :o

check with marker and see youself where the water drop is...

wah very chim ....... sump works like an overflow but at the side of tank .... maybe can elaborate more bout your system.

if it really works like an overflow meaning u pump water into the sump and gravity brings back the water into main tank then the evaporation is seen in the main tank .

if u use 2 pumps (which should not be done ) meaning pump water into and out of sump then evaporation rate is seen on both tanks

ryan is right. Your main tank level will change. Not the Sump.

Just a note.

How does your sump bring water to your tank?

If by a pump, then the water level changes will be in the pump chamber not your main tank.

If your sump bring water to your main tank by gravity then its your main tank water level will change.
