Hi, I am starting to setup a 2ft cube tank (assuming no sump, just a 10mm bare tank), initially with LPS, with aim to include SPS subsequently.

I learnt a lot from this forum (thank you very much) as well some of mistakes by other reefers (sorry guys to learn at your expense).

Budget is always a challenge and hence need some advise from reefers on some key items so that I do not need to keep upgrading them.

1. What type of lightset should I consider ? T5, LED, etc? What power rating and tubes/LED should I go for? If you know of brand and price, kindly PM me if not convenient to reply here.

2. Wave maker : what size and brand/model, number of units, should I be considering?

3. Skimmer : Space is limited. I probably be looking at a hangon skimmer. Reef Octopus and any other brand/model?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions, views and comments.

I certainly looking to start it right and at same time, manage my limited budget!

1) for light set, LED because your tank will be small. should minimise heat. checkout maxspect

2) JBJ ocean pulse wavemaker. just get 2 decent powerheads. I am using the tunze ones.

3) I am using the bubble magus in sump. good and cheap and reliable. think they have a hang on.

Tank : 2.5 x1.5 x 2

Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC3.5

Lighting : Maxspect 110W

Chiller : Hailea 150 @ 27Deg

Salt : TropicMarin

I would recommend tunze 6025 for 2ft cube, using it and was recommended by henry. Aim the wavemaker across tank and let the wave bounce of the glass, should even out the flow. As for skimmer consider tunze DOC skimmer 9002. For lighting, maxspect is good but expensive. Went for beamworks LED 1600 instead.
