BEWARE of this guy by the nick, DOH. He calls himself 'Dennis' (guess that's fake too. >.>)

It all happened like this:

I was looking to trade my WORKING Tunze nano wavebox with him on 26 November 2012. Initially we arranged to meet at JE polyclinic, however due to my bus being caught in a traffic jam on PIE, we adjourned the meeting to IMM. At IMM, we arranged to meet at Level 1 carpark since I was driving and he wasn't. So once reached he called me and we met.

So basically during the deal-flow, I asked him several questions like "how was the mp10?" "Are there any issues I should be aware of?" "how much did he pay?" He answered "it is working fine as he last took it out" (hence explained the wetness of the pump) and said he paid $270 for the set. I then proceeded with tmy checks but given that it was packed tightly into the box, I didnt dig further myself (which I should! I will explain why later) because this deal was done on a good-will as such I subsequently handed him my Tunze nano wavebox to him. Deal closed and we parted. Whole thing took about 15 minutes because I had not bathed after reaching home and was running a slight gastric.

Upon reaching home, that's when my nightmare started. I went to unbox the mp10 and realised that the wires connecting between the motor pump and the controller box was badly frayed - exposed wires at the connections!! I thought "okayy, maybe it's just cosmetic defect and some black tape will settle it". But that self-consolation didnt help. I turned on the pump and guess what...

IT DIDNT ROAR INTO LIFE!

I thought might be the wire connections loose. So I went to adjust the wires, test it over and over again, but the controller kept blinking green/red lights which according to the manual, it means the pump stalled. Or in a simpler laymen term - it's spoilt!

A sense of frustration and disappointment ensued. I immediately smsed him which of course, no reply. I called him then and realised he off-ed his phone! What the F! That was when I realised I was scammed.

It had been 26 hours+ since I took over that mp10 and it's been just as long as I am waiting for this guy's reply which I guess he won't be calling cause otherwise he should have seen my 3 missed calls and if he log on, he should see my last 2 messages. Can you imagine how I am feeling now when the LAST THING he said before we parted was "If you cannot reach me as my current phone is cranky and my army phone is useless, PM me. I will DEFINITELY reply"

So to Dennis or whatever DOH or name you have, $250 is a fair price to pay to see how distasteful you are. You might be laughing away reading this but bear in mind that you reap what you sow and that there is something as Karma. But before all these strike you, I will bump into you someday in Jurong area or IMM first because it's so hard to forget how you look like since you are as tall as my brother, skinny, and look like my friend So please go hide and don't let me see you (which I think will be quite hard since Singapore is THAT small and we have less than 8 shops to shop for corals and fishes and of course, 2 reasonably priced equipment shops in AMK and Clementi) because I will get back what you owe me. This is not a threat, I meant serious.

P.S: Last time a guy smashed my car and ran away, well I found him and made him pay all damages to it plus a police record slapped to his name.

Word of advice: I can understand from a reefer's point of view that this hobby is expensive and most of the top notch toys cost an arm or leg or even both! And given economy is getting bad, keeping this hobby alive gets tougher. However there are always ways you can enjoy this hobby without resorting to scam another brother's toys or money! A nano or a pico are alternative if not more satisfying ways you can do to enjoy this hobby. It doesn't mean having big toys mean you are in the league, you don't!. It's akin like having a big tool doesn't mean you can get the girl to her big O or a good *expletive* on your side because for all you know, you still disgustingly suck. Even made more so if you cheat your way into it. Period.

Anyway to further my inputs,

What I gathered about him was that his tactic of sale is to tell buyer that he cannot test the toy he is selling for you because of whatever-daft reason.

PLEASE STILL TEST! because from what my intel gathered, he tried to use the same tactic on another bro here but failed. So please be careful.

AND DO NOT LAUGH.. It might happen to you too.

Omg ... Sad to hear that these people still lurks around conning people here and there ... Dear DOH please explain what happen and i do hope if it's really a spoilt wavemaker, pls return to owner or offer to buy the tunze nano from him....

Bro marcovan, see if any supplier can help to repair the wavemaker and see how much is the cost ....

Why things have to be like this? I believe people are becoming not trustworthy anymore....with this forum we should be making more friends and sharing experience and I feel sad for the buyer.....selling and buying is going to be more difficult as we will not be trusting each other very soon in the near future....I hope DOH come forward and resolve this issue......

Bro what u can do is since u still have the convo, u can file a police report for scamming... Since u also have the phone number, if its registered, it will be better.. But best if u can consult a lawyer for qns.. i think there are free public legal consultants out there..

Sad to hear this. did u try his alt. no.? ------> 98921012. saw in previous thread posted by him. Anyway, hope this will be resolved soon. His last active before i posted this was 2.04AM 28/11/2012. Give him some time to reply n see what other options can be done.

Dear all,

thanks for the concerns regarding this matter, I've PMed Marco to explain the situation as well as apologize for the grief i have caused him. Didn't realize there's a thread going on about this. i understand it looks really bad on my end on this entire matter. i can only attributed it to some unfortunate turn of events or someone up there is playing a prank on me. ironically, i had just been scammed, thus resulting in the 'no phone' situation. although i admit putting myself in his shoes, i would have felt the similar frustrations he had for not being able to contact me. i wish to resolve this matter between the both of us amicably as adults, as well as get his understanding that it wasn't my intention from the start to scam anyone. While we discuss on resolving this unpleasant incident, i sincerely hope to close off this chapter here.

PS: fellow reefers, please don't lose faith in the reefing community here based on isolated incidents as i personally have come across very friendly and nice individuals myself
