Can active carbon cause a tank to be toxic??

Recommended Posts

hi guys... in need of some help.

I have a 34l ocean space 3 nano tank currently running on a built in iOS system. Just got a HOB filter for extra water surface agitation as my tank is too small for a wavemaker...

So I decided to place active carbon by Kent marine into the small compartment of my hob as I heared it helps to chemically filter the water. I rinsed my carbon first under the tap before placing it into the hob filter compartment. After running it, I then noticed that some of the water running out from the hob into my tank is a bit blackish due to residue from the activated carbon...will this become toxic for my fish?? please advise. I onserved l that my true perc is suddenly stressed darting around the tank. I also just did a weekly 10% water change. help needed thx
