Thinking of reusing my current live rock for my new setup, but my current rock is infested with hair algae and many other algae.

Thought of killing the live rock using bleach.

Any kind advise on killing my live rock completely will be helpful.

Thank!

I have struggled with Aiptasia a couple of years back. Here's what I did:

1) Remove all LR to be sun-dried

2) Discard LS

3) Bleach entire tank include pumps and pipe works

I would bleach LR as it will sting to high heavens. I think sun-dried is good enough as the beneficial bacteria and microbes will survive deep in the rock while the nuisance at the surface is killed.

If I were you, I will just cooked the rocks.

Ic many thanks for the advise. But I'm kinda sceptical about boiling it because I have read online that it might "explode" due to pressure.

Also thinking how to Sun dry as I'm staying hdb without balcony haha.

Please note that if u use boiling water make sure the rock is free of zoas. Zoas in boiling water will give out toxic vapor together with steam. Once inhale, you might be poison and need to be hospitalize.

I soak all my rocks in bleach for one day and then dry them before soaking them in vinegar for 2hrs, followed by soaking in RODI water for a few days before I use them in tank.

One thing to note is, once you soak in vinegar, the rocks will be very brittle as the vinegar acid will dissolve the rock walls.

This may seem like a long process, but if you are patient (and lazy) like me, you won't even notice how fast the days go by. I do each process after work in the evening.
