Hi Senoir

Need advise on below:

1) Water start to get cloudy after installing bio pellet reactor ..3day start to get cloudy

Will nitrate drop once water get clear. Can add livestocks or coral after nitrate drop?

2)Do we need to change water after water clear?

3) Will the livestocks able to ride thru the nitrate export transit period?

Usually how long does it takes to get over the cloudy period?

Tank profile:

3X2X2 with Sump (coral chip)

5 week old

NO1, NO2 & PO4 zero

NO3 50mg/l

PH 8.08

salinity 1.024

Temp 29 to 30 degree

Equipment

Lights : 6 x T5 ( 3blue 3white) lights on at 2pm till 11pm

JBL Protein skimmer

Phos reactor

Biopellet reactor

Fan....Not using chiller

Using Redsea salt mix to set up tank

Top up with DI water regularly

Dose MicroBacter7 daily

Livestocks

LiveRocks

1 X 1.5" Yellow Tang

1 X 1" Blue Tang

2 X 1.5" Clown

2 X 1" Skunk shrimp

Above doing fine

Coral

1 X 3" Crosea Clam

3 X Mushroom

3 X Zoas

1 X 3" leather

Above doing fine

Worried as Nitrate start to rise higher and higher. So decided the biopellet reactor

install on Thurdsay and water turn cloudy Saturday

Hairline and brown algae appearing on tank

BTW, also set up a Algae scrubber 1 week ago and can see brown algae appearing on the flow mat.

Appreciate advise and thanking all in advance.

Best regards

TonyL

I assume that you have already finish running the tank cycling before adding your live stocks. The water cloudy is a sign of bacteria boom in your tank, it should clear after a few day if not you can use carbon or dose" It;s clear " to help clear the water. It is harmless but stop dosing your bacteria at the time being .

Nitrate is not as toxic to livestock as compare to Nitrite or ammonia so if you stock up slowly your new bio pallet reactor and alage scrubber should be able to handle it significantly. It take time for the bio pallets reactor to "Kick in" , a good sign will be observing the bio pallets turning smaller and smaller which show nitrate being consume.

Hope the above helps..

Hi Sir,

Thanks for the advise, will wait few days to see whether the biopellet is running. If not will heed your advise on "Its clear".

Once again, thanks

At least, I am glad to know the live stocks can take it at the moment and hope the system kick in to resume back to normal operation.

Hi Sir,

This morning the water resume back to clear stage, however, the nitrates is still at 50mg/l. Is this the right sympton. Or I still need few days to check nitrates?

Appreciate those who have pass experience to share....thks

since your are running on bio pellet.

I think Cheato can put on hold first.

let your system run for a while and when your tank is more mature, add in the cheato.

i prefer cheato than biopellet

cheaper in cost

natural (biological method)

grow of other natural food for fishes

beautify your sump tank

Cheato light also light up the sump compartment in the night.

my 2cents :)

advise is get a chiller bro. fans cause water to evaporate fast. and if your top up water is not zero ppm in impurities you will be adding alot of impurities. keeping water temp below 28deg will reduce algae. as for your cloudiness, it should have cleared by now.

they are pretty cheap these days. I have a hailea one for sale if you are interested.

Tank : 2.5 x1.5 x 2

Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC3.5

Lighting : Maxspect 110W

Chiller : Hailea 150 @ 27Deg

Salt : TropicMarin

there isnt much of a requirement, most people run on those energy saving bulbs bought off ikea or t5's ... just make sure it is in reverse cycle of ur display tank's light

It is a must to do a reverse cycle of than main tank's light set? Currently my main tank and sump lighting is the same?

Reverse lighting cycle so as plants give out carbon dioxide when its "night" time which in turn, with ur display tank's carbon dioxide from inhabitants, will cause ph drop.:)

Fresh fishes and inverts! What's next? To the salty side of marine of course!:)
