Hi everyone, I am new here. Currently, I have 7 freshwater tanks at home with fishes ranging from apistos to cichlids. :lol:

Thinking of starting up a marine tank but heard that a lot of salt deposits would form on the floor around the saltwater tanks and the surroundings...which would corrode my tiles and furnitures :huh: So, still considering my options :unsure:

But nevertheless, I would ask for all of your pro. advice if I decided to embark on this new journey. :) Hope to know more friends from this forum too :lol:

If you are thinking of going into this hobby... you've found the right place!!!

7 tanks? Woah! I used to keep planted and cichlids before.

Anyway... it's not true you will get salt deposits on the floor all the time. Salt creep happens when you have water spray due to bursting bubbles or you have a leak somewhere... when the water dries, the salt is left behind. (Unlike FW tanks, we do not have to bubble air into saltwater as the oxygen content is higher in SW).

The only thing is that due to evaporation, you may find increased corrosion in the metals in your house... but it's not as bad as staying next to the sea ie. Marine Parade.

Hi,

Welcome to the big family. Wat you can do to prevent salt desposit, is to do daily maintenance,eg cleaning away access salt resalute on the tank surface and vicinity

Currently a few of my cichlid pairs are in heat and ready to spawn :yeah: so I foresee my that most of my tanks will be fully occupied for the next two months or so.

Nevertheless, I would still like to give marine tanks a shot. I am always so impressed with some of those beautiful setups. Hope to catch you guys soon. :):)
