Anti Chlorine during water change or top up

Hi

Do u need to add anti chlorine during change of water or water top up ? Currently for water top up, I just add tape water straight from the tape, as for my first water change I will add salt with tape water, is that correct ?

top up to compensate for water loss during evaporation, use tape? water left overnight. water change, use saltwater left overnight. tape? water should be left overnight to let chlorine go away.

I think he meant tap. Think you aerate the salt water overnight to dissipate the gases(chlorine fluorine etc.)

i suppose 'tape' is supposed to be tap...

for anything u need to dechlorinate the water... NO chlorine should be found... unless u just wanna pour 100ml then i guess it'll be fine.. but just try your best not to have any kind of chlorine in the water

Anyway, replying to the question, its best to add antichlorine into a container of tape I mean tap water before you pour the water into the tank.

Leaving it overnight doesn't remove the chlorine because PUB uses chloromine which does not evaporate. You need to add antichlorine which will combine and react with the chloromine to allow it to be skimmed out and render it harmless.

sorry tapwater, so does that mean the chlorine will disappear if u left the tapwater overnight ?

Just to repeat Cookie's point in case you people missed it. Leaving tap water overnight will not remove chloramine. Chlorine will be gassed off but chloramine must be removed by chemical methods.

Hmmm interesting to see the all-concerned Nitrates, Sulphate and Silica popping out on our water charts (do the values measure according to our test values btw?)

So to many of our experts out here, the question still remains in my head; should we go RO/DI or just carry on with Chemical treatment for our top-up water???
