Recommended salinity for FOWLR

Recommended Posts

1.018-1.020 would be reasonable. Below 1.015 for long term, to my experience especially for angel fishes will loose its colour. It happened to me when I treat them with hypo around 1.010-1.015 for about 3 weeks, when I gradually brought back the salinity to 1.018 the colour pop up back.

I will go slighty lower btw 1.020, my understanding is lower will help to prevent ick

To rid of ick, need to go hypo level 1.010 or below.  However, this is for treatment only and not good for long term.  Ick can still come back beyond the hypo level.

Some use copper to prevent ick.  But, copper is harmful and should be administered with care and control at a slightly lower salinity for best effect.

Too low is how low? Its marine fishes we r keeping so cant b keeping them in freshwater (sg near to 1) right..haha..its a joke so pls dun feel offended :)

The said salinity is 1.025 for seawater..for FOWLR, I have try 1.015 with no ill effect for 10months & currently keeping sg @ 1.017 (monitoring)..most would recommend 1.018-1.022 for FOWLR..Do note that all tanks & livestocks are different so good luck :)

Invertebrates like higher salinity. So if you want can just keep around 1.025 - 1.026 like Willy suggested. I keep mine 1.024 only because I like more buffer in case of too much evaporation if my ATO fails. I've seen neglected tanks reach 1.030 with no livestock issue as well. But probably not a good idea lol
