Hey peong. Why don't you do a seahorse tank since you are the expert in this? Would love to partner you if you did a seahorse tank so can learn from you.

Further more, SH in MT-603-LED tank is not sustainable as the pumps' wave is too strong, ur horses w just hanging there without life till 8th Dec. Bell, don't play play... :)

Ok, didn't know the pump wave that come along with the tank would be too strong for the horses.

After some deeper thought in this area I think is quite possible unless we can spread out the wave from the two water inlets, so that will still create some flow in the tank and yet no harm to the horses. Okay, I'm willing to take up this challenge to give myself a try.

Went to CF today, spotted some kuda and potbelly, nice chat with John and also get some idea from him... Things are coming more interesting and excited too, but recently just decommissioned my SH tank, so still thinking of how to settle the horses after this competition, Anyone interested to buy over my entire set-up? :) Welcome to discuss with me.

Another new day is coming soon, planning to go Jireh Marine tomorrow to see their SH stocks, anyone wanna join in? :)

No, I have no more SH tank at home but going to set-up one for competition, I believe it will be my most earnest set-up I ever have, it comes with a specific theme for my showcase, hope that no only to catch the judges' eyes but also to give the public a most rememberable one, especially to the kids. Well, more pressure on my shoulder now since I put my word here, but also wanna thank for my friends for their willingness to support me after hearing my desire, some even wanna lend me their corals and my team assistant is going to offer me a ride to Jireh Marine this noon, how touching to hear that, don't you? :)

Just a little update on my progress. As mentioned above, I had bought two bags of grade '0' sand from iwarna last monday, I had already washed one bag and put into cycling process with the "old water" from my 6ft tank, hopefully the bio-bacteria will speedy boosting up by seeding little bit of nitrifying bacteria, for another bag of dry sand I will use it for some DIY decoration before I cycle it.

The probability of live stock will be: normal temperature seahorse (kuda or tigetail) and pipefish, this to ease my preparation and bench-in/out after much consideration and advices from friends, and also with much higher surviving rate.

Well, busy with other commitment this week, so I cannot input really much here, but next week should be able to go for full force to think and hands-on for the decoration part.

See you then! :)

Yes, I'm back from my busy moment and now is time for reefing :)

Just bought a pair of yellow mutibanded pipefish from iwarna last three days, as my hosting tank is not ready so I asked aunty to reserve for me and she agreed. Thank you Aunty! :)

My hosting tank is at my mum's place actually, is a simple fowlr 3ft IOS tank with 3 old and super hardly residents currently - bicolor angel, a 3inch domino damsel and tomato clown, they r my mum's (74yr old) favorite fishes to accompany, but no choice need to let them go just for this project, but I had promised her that i will redo a nice set-up after the competition. So, my job now is to create a hosting tank for the desired LS and make sure they r acclimatized before bench-in on 7th Dec.

Here is my first pair of LS to be used in my showcase, let's welcome "theeee yellooow mutiiiibanded pipefish" 

It was a sad day to see my mum said farewell to the three fishes when I pass over to the buyer on 25/10.

So, this is the 3ft IOS tank (3ft x 1.5 x 1.5H) will be using to hosts my LS in the meantime, what I going to do is these:

1. Wash the tank and equipments

2. Prepare 50% D-D pro salt mix with 50% old water from my 6ft tank

3. Get it cycle for two weeks with nitrifying bacteria added

4. Water parameter check and control

5. Add in pre-prepared sand bed

6. Pods seeding with algae plant in place

7. Install lighting

8. Add in DIY ornament and decoration

9. Test water with LS

10. Add in desired corals

12. Add in seahorse and pipefish

13. Prepare for bench-in

The above milestone is just a draft idea to guide me through, during each stage of the journey I will hopefully be able to dropped down some significant measure so to let you have a idea of my concept for a sustainable Seahorse and Pipefish tank that I'm going to set-up for this competition. Well, this week is going to be very busy doing clean up for this hosting tank and also my 6ft tank... wish myself :superman:

  • 5 weeks later...
  • SRC Member

Wow, is about a month never do my update, really sorry for that as I was having quite a tight schedule last few weeks and because I'm more a single task person so can only concentrate on hand-on preparation for this competition.

Okay, there are some of my updates:

1st, bad news to report: My pair of reserved yellow mutibanded has died before I collect from a LFS, Yes, what a pity! :cry2:

But after thinking, I had decided to go for a purely seahorse tank set-up, which will be a combination of a pair of yellow tigertail and about 20 pieces of ponies (seahorse's babies), age from 1-2 months.

Hopely my set-up will be given them the best accommodation that I could think of.

Here is the picture of the yellow tigertail and ponies that I referring to: (pic borrow from internet)

So, having decided to go for this challenge, I had settled the source of food supply for the ponies, that is live copepods, they are the swimming type and comes with high nutrient that the seahorse's fry needs most. Of course, the two adults will be feeding on frozen mysis.
