linko
Dear DIY gurus, I would like to share my DIY light fixture in here and I have to ask a few questions about it. I upgraded my 24 gals JBJ Nano cube to Custom made 2' shallow cube tank last 3 months ago. But I didn't t upgrade my extg. light (Maxspect G2 110W) and decided to DIY the LED+T5 Combo light fixture. Before this I've no experience in DIY aquarium lighting and this is my first time trying to DIY the light. Then I started as a serious learner, I went through so many Internet forums from here to over there. Finally I had enough knowledge to sketched out my own design and started to do it. I bought 2 x T5 kits from DE lighting and tried to set-up slowly. It took me about 3 weeks to complete the job. My light fixture consists of 4 x ATI 24W -T5 bulbs with individual reflectors and extg. Maxspect G2 110W LED. Below are the light combination from front to back; Front - True Actinic Blue Plus Maxspect G2 110W Aquablue Special Purple Plus -Back I'm still learning to improve my light fixture and I'm expecting to get your good advices. with love, linko
linko
In this photo, please look at the red circles. It is the connection part of power cord and Phillip HF performer II HF-P224-39TL5 HO E II ballast. I used the normal connector which I could easily found in local hardware shop. My concern is that they are not safe enough even tough I tested and unsure that no electrical current there. But I have no idea what to do and which thing/connector i have to use as a safe connection. Please kindly help me to give your advice for my concern. SRC Member peacemaker Posted October 1, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted October 1, 2012 If you can get all the wiring and connectors covered up, that will be good.
linko
If you can get all the wiring and connectors covered up, that will be good. Yes Bro, I have to fabricate the acrylic cover. Not only to cover the messy wiring but also it will protect against the lights. Thanks for your comments.

linko
I can help u do direct soldering if you need. Hi Bro, When i have to shit the house, I'll deal with Uncle Dam for moving the tank since the tank was made by CR. The water volume is around 40gals including sump and 10 kg of LRs in display. So, it doesn't really difficult to relocate. And could you explain me what is " direct soldering " ? Or else any reference photos or link? Thank you so much

linko
U dont need to have a connector there. I help u solder wire to wire and it is safer too. Oh.. I understood now, what is direct soldering . Some things like that, right? I had tried to do like that before. But the wire strands are not strong enough. And i don't like the power cord plug too. When i get the ready made connected power cord and plug, i'll come to your place and learn from you about that direct soldering. I aldy searched at Sim Lim tower for that plug with 1meter long cord but i can't find the sufficient type of cable. May be lack of my knowledge on it. Thank you, Bro. Due to tide budget and fall in love to T5 bulb color spectrum, i had decided to DIY the light fixture. I bought T5 kits from Bro Razali. I satisfied all of his T5 accessories except the power cable. His reflector is the most i loved. Happy reefing

If u wan that type of connector, normally u will need to solder on the equipment side which is also the male connector.
