Hi in Advance to all Src Brothers here.

Im planning on building a 4ft by 1.5ft by 1ft Shallow Reef(10mm to 12mm)

It is a Lps Dominated Tank.

The tank setup is build with Low Cost, Low Electricity & Low Maintainance in mind.

As i'm only 18 years old.

No custom cabinet, no sump. Using My Tv Console Cabinet, Its with A Wooden Material

But i believe it is as strong as Chengnai Wood Material.

Get All four family to stand on the Cabinet & Even Jump around to Test its Ability.

Total weight, 220kg can be supported.

Planning to start shopping with this Equipments in Checklist:

Tank will be Equip with;

Eheim 2222 Canister Filter 700l/h.

China WaveMaker 12000l/h x2 (With Controller).

Beamworks Led 3300 Lighting Fixture.

Skimmer: HOB BM Q3. (Believe to be Latest BM Skimmer)

Still Thinking;

A UV Sterlizer?

A Chiller?

A Calcium Reactor?

Anymore suggestions/Opinions/Advised Needed Before

Start Shopping for Equipment.

Thank you.

Bro,

You do not need CR, because LPS consume CA very low, just do manuel dosing or DIY one dosing container. Chiller is good to have so u can keep more type of LPS. As for wavemaker LPS does not need so strong wave i believe for your shallow tank 1 will do 12000/L. For UV if u want to keep more fish is good to have. Please note chengnai wood is wood then can tahan water but your house tv console not design to tahan water in long term water go in softern the wood that it game over. It true it can tahan 220kg but advice not too.

personally feel unsafe too using TV console to hold the tank.. All of your family members may jump on the console for a while and it can tahan, however the tank is going to sit on the tv console 24/7 in years to come, it is no joke with all the salt, water and life rock. I strongly suggest to get a custome make cabinet with sump, that will help with the maintainance and most importantly safety. If budget is your concern, go to pasar malam where you may find some really good deal there.

As for chiller, I feel is a must to have if you are keeping LPS, unless the tank is place in a air-corn room.

2cent..

if you wanna save money should not use LED, use T5s much cheaper and has been around longer. UV sterilizers also not a must. never used one before.

Yeah, a chiller would definitely be recommended, however i have had tanks without chillers before, you just have to monitor temperature swings.

LED is an expensive equipment to invest for a start.

But if you decided to stay on to this hobby for long, it work out to be the same cost.

Plus

Less monthly electricity bills

unlikely to change bulbs.

Give less heat

give nice color (esp royal blue)

if you have a budget, go check out on pasar malam.

Buy the more reliable LED maker.

and yes, if you decide to keep LPS, i think chiller is a must.

Will 3 x 24w T5 be enough? 1 white and 2 blue for LPS?

Yours is 2 ft tank? IMO, need at least 4-6tubes of T5 to bring out the colors. I used to keep LPS using 4 T5s and 1 T8.

Even with 4 tubes of T5, tank still looked kinda dim to me. Hope this help.
