hey guys, I've got a 10 g nano with one damsel and live rock, and have been cycling it for two weeks with water that i purchased from LFS and frequent water changes and have been adding bottled bacteria from LFS. all look happy and active.

so today at the pet store, I got a slug( couldn't resist it looked damn nice) My questions would be...

1) I'm concerned about the bioload produced by the slug. Will it be too much for a tank my size? Im not using a skimmer yet.

2) I don't have any corals, but if I start to keep some, will I have to get ride of the slug?

3) Im planning to add a clownfish and a doctor shrimp in due time after my tank has matured...can they be compatible.??

I'm sorry I can't seem to upload the picture of the slug.. I'm using an iPhone to view this forum, but it's blue and orange and got like orange tentacles on its head. dunno what slug issit.

Cycling with livestock, I really wonder which lfs is that, that is always telling new reefers this..

Anyway, dun even bother the bioload becos they nudibranch will not even survive in captivity.. They need specialized diet, until now marine biologist are still not sure what they are eating in the sea and can only say, they are feeding on sponges and corals.. there are also a lot of species of sponges and on top of that they are not easy to keep..

You can do away with the skimmer if you can do mini water change everyday, like 5-10%..

As for clown and damsel, depending on which species of damsel it is then it might be the only fish in your tank..

I dont understand why LFs-es sell nudibranches when the possiblity of survival in captivity is quite low unless by some freak of a chance you get the correct sponge to feed it. I even remember the personnel at the shop tell me that as long as I buy any sponge it's no problem!

Cheers, ;)

Because they look pretty and if they keep dying, there's a chance you keep coming back to buy. As long as they can sell something, they will sell. Not all lfs do that. AM sells them. When I asked about them, the salespeople told me not to buy, it's almost impossible to keep them alive. Sometimes, the lfs has no choice when the supplier put nudis into the shipment. They have to buy the whole lot.
