i seek your kind attention and wise advise :peace:

I like Sony and Canon. Nikon (except digital SLR) is not very user friendly and quite fussy.

My favorite is still Sony. It gives the riches colour and most of the pictures I take is with DSC-S75 which is 4 years old but working fine even though I abuse it.

If you click on the "www" below you will be able to see my pictures, it will tell you what camera I used to.

there's a local photographer forum..

can't recall the url, maybe u can do a search that is if u dun mind 2nd hand digi cam. I got my 3.2mg olympus cam with optional ability for add on lens (macro, UV, tele etc) for less than $500.

check with Alan Photo at Sim Lim Square on pricing.

One of the best, look for Steven. Not so beng as the other

"uncles" there.

hmM.. at a budget of 500.. can have no prob getting a cam wth 3.2 megapixels. Look out for the optical zoom 3x and digital zoom. Nv focus too much on digital zoom, cause it's not the real zoom, and ur pic wont be clear. Only use optical zoom if u wan the 'real' thing. Macro shot function(enable u to get close(depends on ur DC specs) and take real, focused, clear pic) also a need for taking of coral.. Correct me if i'm wrong, learning from mistakes.

Everything's sold. Back in 2yrs time.

If it's a WRX, it gotta be STI.

try Casio Exslim with the optical zoom if you want those small size one, presently using Ixus400, can do but still abit too thick (if you are talking @ size)

Canon A series is good and value for money if you don't mind the look (IMO)

S series is great minus the plastic sliding "door".

G Series is the best unless you want a SLR.

Nikon abit slow in startup and switching from viewing to rec mode.(Maybe the latest model is better liao, used to have coolpix885)

Not sure @ Sony but most of the night scene taken from Sony are impressive.

So if you want a fun camera to go wherever you go "Exslim"

abit stylo "Ixus" :fear:

If not just go for the A or better still G series (IMO only will use on occasion or with purpose)

Pro go for SLR.

Just forget about digital zoom and effect, all this can be edit with software. Storage media's price is another issue to consider bside the batt.

If your main issue is to take fantastic pics of your tank and within buget, try A seires for canon.

Lastly choose what catch your eyes and never let the salesperson sweet talk.

hope this helps!

Macro shot the range from the camera away from the object varies with the brands of cameras. Some can get close up to 3cm or even closer..

example of macroshot, for this pic, i juz focus on the flower rather than the leaf..

Ixus is the small version of S series and A is the cheaper version of the G series.

A and G have more mannual mode compare to the Ixus, and try to take with tripod if you want the best macro, test the camera b4 u buy.

In term of brands, Cannon, Olympus and Nikon can be trusted not 4geting Sony. As for Casio, just for the size and one of the largest lcd screen (shorter batt. life span)

Nikon offer macro @4cm while cannon ixus @10cm (hope i got the facts right)

hi adrianz when you say macro is 10cm does that mean the distance from the camera to the object? actually i already have a sony DSC P5 paid $1199 for it and it's crap as in the batteries all have memory effect paid $130 for a second and third spare and they all died on me... how sad rite? i was using my camera yesterday and both battery fully charged hardly give 5mins of energy... though i managed to take smoe pix i could not syncronise!!! figured i rather get a brand new camera then paying for new battries :( therefore my budget is like $500 only... need a long lasting one and trying to get rid of my P5 any takers? :look:
