Nano skinmer not producing foam.

Hi guys, I have a 10g nano, recently just added a Dymax IQ5 skimmer( which fits my tank perfect).. But it's not producIng foam! It produces large bubbles that pop before reaching the cup and after a few hours, I don't see any skimmate, just clear water.

How can I solve this problem? I plan to keep two damsels. One clown and maybe a shrimp. The skimmer will really lessen the load on the filter and reduce the frequency of water changes. thanks:)

Your bio load may not be high enough. secondly it may not be a good make. when i first started i bought a number of skimmers to try out the technology.For your size, you can do a 10% WC without a skimmer. Remember to feed wisely

Thanks for the advise:) .. Just wondering how often do I need the 10% wc?

Secondly, the filter media I use is wool, I bag of glass rings and another bag of ceramic rings for bacteria/bio filtration. Do I need to change these media, if so, how often? Cuz I already have stacked live rock and live sand purchased from qian hu fish farm... :/

For me i dont change.. Since good bacteria is being produced by the bio media. They reproduce alot unless they got nothing to eat then fie off. Or u dose something like red slime remover then u kill them all.. The bio rings with holes are good for bacterias. Just buy liquid bacteria to dose if u think not enough.

1st ur skimmer is in running-in mode since its new, maybe 3 days later it will start skimming... 2nd, u need to get a high power air pump + air regulator, Additional, at some point of time (not sure how long), u need to change the wooden air block...

the wood block hv to be replaced the moment u see lesser fine bubble due to clogging. Add a prefilter side the air pump inlet if u can.cheers

those who used the dymax IQ skimmer all say to replace the wooden block with some wooden block from red sea instead. i too had the same problems as u, big bubbles being produced, returned the skimmer to the lfs, and bought a bubble magus nac qq instead.
