KH 6.1dKH is that ok to start Frag?

Hi, I measured my tank Kh as 6.1dKH, is that any concern to start storing livestock ? if this is an concern, what is the best solution ? Please advise ?

For FOWLR setup still maintenable. Nevertheless your ph swing maybr raise a red flag. I always maintain within 8dkh

It is not difficult. Get a good brand salt mix & mointor the parameter. Find out the root causes for low or unstable hardness. High bio-load ( stocking), coral requirement, clams will uitilized significately

i don't think you should add any livestock just yet, best solution find some buffering solution to boost your alkalinity. for example seachem carbonate

Alternatively, u can buy baking soda, spread onto a baking sheet, bake for 1hr 300 degree, mix it with freshwater n store.. Cheaper alternative...

I'm gonna do the Randy's two part recipe as it is very cheap rather than buying those ready made ones... Best if u can use together with a dosing pump to maintain the parameters

First check your Mg; it has to be >1300ppm after that add carbonate as suggested by John to increase dkh

Without good level of Mg, carbonate ion will quickly bind with calcium ion and the ion will quickly disappear from your aquarium water (the resulting calcium carbonate may accumulate in your pump) and again your is going down (with your Ca going down too).

After that monitor daily to see how much the dkh, Ca, and Mg decrease; setup dosing regime to maintain them at desired level.

When increasing dkh, try to inc max 1dkh per day.

When doing water change, match the dkh and ca of the new mixed saltwater before changing the water.

When matching dkh and Ca, make sure that Mg is at least 1300ppm.

Other trace elements that are hard to trace, do regular water changes to refurnish the elements.

thanks for all feedbacks. I suspect is due to added calcium additive which bring down the dkh. Ok, I will buy Mg tester to check the level and should I buy Mg additive as well? Or buy baking soda?

Shd get Mg too.

It is better to get separate dkh, Ca and Mg supplement so that you can independently control the parameters.

Mg is consumed by some corals and coralines, so the level can be depleted too (ie need dosing too if the depletion is high before the next water change)
