Hi all. Deciding on which to use for a 150g tank. Looking for your input in this.

comparing wattage guess waterblaster wins. The most important is head loss. U can google their performance chart for better comparison.

saw a water blaster pump operating out of water during last aquarama n let u touch pump to verify if hot.

So in the end I choose water blaster over ehiem due to power efficiency.

Tank size:36"x36"x24"

Return pump" 2x Reef Octo 5000

Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s.

Lighting:2 x Kessil A360we

Auto topup system: JBJ ATO + new jet 1200

Dosing system: Kamoer 3 channel.

Additives: ESV 2 part.

Power consumption

2XReef Octo 5000: 120watts

BK skimmer:50watts

2xVortech wavemaker:70watts

For return pump use I will stick with a reliable ehiem.

Been using eheim products since long ago, they can last easily 5 years or more..best part spares are available in most lfs! But sometime i do wonder about de diff in power, does a lower watt means lower rpm of the impeller/needle wheel? Won't that equal 2 a lower flow?

I am using both now, water blaster is good, powerful and dun take up a lot of wattage, but I am still running my eheim 1264. Eheim is the most trusted pump and most of the time nothing will happen to it. So since I have 2 return, I will run both, water blaster for the power and eheim for reliability.

Skimmer - Reefoctupus

Return Pump - 1 x Eheim 1264, 1 x water blaster 7k

Yes I agreed with gary as well that ehiem is a workhorse which never fail me. Hopefully they come out some energy saving pump in future.

Reason I asked is that seeking a lower wattage pump but with a flow rate of above 3000lt/hr. Started with a 1260, upgraded to a Red Dragon but dragon don't last so went back to the 1260. Thinking of re-doing my piping under the cabinet.

For those seeking DC or low wattage pump, there are many available now but my suggestion is to get a spare pump on stand by. Don't be like me, I lost a frag of hoeksemai after my DC pump suddenly stopped and I can't get replacement in time.

The pro about ehiem , reliability but con is power consumption is higher and give out more heat as compare to a DC pump. Which also mean adding heat into the water if you place it in-sump.

Larry, how's the Abyss? Heard it's lifetime warranty. Unfortunately too ex for me to consider.

So far running about 6 month now. Super silent and doesn't give out heat . Much much better than my old Red dragon.
