New tank new cycle

Need advise,can i use direct tap water with salt to cycle my new tank first.

Follow by later with RO/DI water.thk

You can do so but if your tap water consist of high silicates you will have long period of battles with Diatom.

I suggest use RO/DI or Distilled water from the beginning. If costs is a factor, then I suggest using NSW for cycling and fllow up with RO/DI Salt-mix.

I do not think it is advisable as I cycle my tank using tap water and there is lots of algae even though the tank is about 3 months old now.
