Help! Chiller Problem

I just upgraded my tank to 3x2x2.5 tank. Im using Resun CL450 chiller. I place my chiller inside my cabinet and i find it very very warm and i set my chiller at 26 degree. My chiller now is like running 24/7 doesnt stop n i dunno y.. I dun want my bill to explode.. I wonder if the fault is because i place the chiller in cabinet? or the pump is insufficient... I'm currently using a 1300L/HR pump.. if it is because of my pump, i tend to get a 2000l/hr

Is your chiller compartment enclosed?.. move it out of cabinet!!!.

I have a ventilation at the back and even some ventilation hole at the door cabinet.. Not fully close.. I also run a fan inside to help the hot air to escape..

1st time running the chiller to bring down to 26 will take a while from room temp. But not until whole day.Try to make the opening at the back as big as possible. The fan that blows can position it infront the chiller. Open the cabinet door and see any changes. How is your chiller pump run and where you place the chiller return? Chiller placed inside a cabinet need a lot of fresh air cirxulation.

Did you calibrate the chiller temp? Or if you have ruled out the rest then get an ext temp controller for the chiller.

The pump flowrate within the chiller specs? Take some photos.

chiller required >1200l/hr pump.... when i use for my 2ft tank, it runs about 2times n hour.. 15mins to take 28 down to 26.. im using aquazonic evo pump 1300l/hr.. i'll take pics later

1. You may want to first test if your chiller is working by stopping your feed pump and start your chiller. If the water inside the chiller get cooled to your set value, than the chiller is ok.

2. Once the first test is done and is good, than it is most likely to be the problem of insufficient ventilation in the confined compartment that resulted with hot air being re-circulated back to the chiller. To solve this problem, a good extractor fan should be used in the compartment instead of fan blowing into it.

Tested, pump off, chiller able to get 25, thermometer 25.5.. Now placing a super big house fan on the front to check if water temp go down..

Hi bro,

Good, at least your chiller is fine. Big fan is good but that definately not your permenant solution right? IMHO, you should get a good extractor fan that will start pulling out hot air from your cabinet when the chiller cut-in.

Hey i temporary use the big fan but it still doesnt go down.. it only goes down from 28 to 27 and got stuck there.. I think i have no choice to take it out of the cabinet but i have no idea how am i going to slot the hose into the sump...

U can cut a hole on the back panel of the cabinet to slot the hole in. Or remove the fan & use the existing hole.

My chiller also sitting inside my cabinet besides the sump. On the 1st day of setup, I had to keep the door open to cool down the temp to 26.

I am using Arctica 1/5hp for my 4feet tank. So far it is ok but it does get hot inside the cabinet. Need to have big ventilations behind the back of the cabinet. Mine has a big rectangle area cut out to facilitate the heat transfer.

I have an big square hole behind, But i totaly forgot about the heat that the chiller dispenses so i place the cabinet directly unto the wall.. My mistake.. Tried pulling out my cabinet with 4 people.. Cant pull, too heavy haha.. not even an inch

hmmm. will be tough if u can't move it away from the wall.

perhaps u have to leave the chiller outside until u find a way to move it..ask movers for help? pay abit if u have too.

lol movers not worth it.. just to move the tank, i have to pay them transport fee.. which cost alot

Consider installing fan on the square hole at the back to extract hot air from the cabinet

No too diff Bro.. drain water into Jerry cans can hold 30l each.. then once 20% left, move tank then drain back into tank.. corals will not be a problem if outside water a while.. I move my tank around often.. haha.. I got 2 white Jerry cans that I used.. if u wanna borrow let me know.. haha
