SRC Member nutx Posted January 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 24, 2004 Hi, I caught 2 of this from my tank last 2 days, and they are yellow colour. They look like this pic taken from Roidan's posting. size abt near 1 cm. and I've lost 3 frags of Ricordeas Florida (totally gone) and 1 frag has a hole in the center. looks like something is eating them! btw, caught them near my ricordeas. Could this thing eat up the ricordeas?
SRC Member weisoon Posted January 24, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted January 24, 2004 nutx Had quite a handful of these when I bought a rock of zoanthid. I also has a rock of Ricordeas F in my tank but the nudis did not attack them in my case. They only attack the zoanthid, and more importantly they help me to rid my rocks of lots of aiptasia! They will have a few cycles as they lay eggs quite fast. Quite sure it came with your new purchase. Oly way to get rid of them is to constantly look out for them and net them out until no more eggs are laid. Cheers.
Achilles Tang
Hmmm....if it looks like the above, you can give it away to those who keeping SPS only tanks and suffer from Aiptasia problems. Berghia nudibranch. But from what you describe... yours should be very tiny (about 0.5cm?) and these are probably zoanthid parasites. Once their food source runs out.. they'll die out. Don't squash them with your fingers... siphon them out. They have caused a reefer in the US to collapse and be rushed to the ICU. Allergic reaction probably due to its toxins. SRC Member nutx Posted January 24, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted January 24, 2004 I caught 2 of them using a small bottle for them to 'float' into. As for whether they are helpful, or harmful, I just choose to throw them away when i'm not sure what they are. btw, I got 1 staghorm started to RTN, after in my tank for 1month plus....just caught something on its body, not this, but looks like a star fish, with 5arms with strips, but very small abt 0.5cm! (too small to take pic). looks like parasites start to attach my tank!
Achilles Tang
Sounds like a mini-brittlestar. Harmless.
