SRC Member LittleBurger Posted July 23, 2012 SRC Member Share Posted July 23, 2012 Got these green hard algae on glass that are extremely hard to get it off. They are mostly at bottom of tank above the sand. Previously using the long scraper and dip yr hand into the water to scrape them off. Very messy n feel like the natural oil on my arm dirty the water cos my skimmer foam always subsided when I stick my arm into the water. Reefer Djvin recommended this algae scraper to me and So decided to give it a try. I got 2 cleaner magnets, 1 is LV grade, 1 is pasar malam grade. Have seen this scraper long ago but couldn't bare to super glue the scraper to the better grade magnet. Reefer Djvin has his scraper glued to a cheap magnet n it works. So I decided to try out. After waiting for the glue to cure, I tried it out this morning. It is like running just 10m of the 2.4km throughout. Effortless! Point to note is u should select a magnet that can be moved around easily. As if the magnet is too strong, there might be harder to xontrol it around. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted July 23, 2012 Author SRC Member Share Posted July 23, 2012 The blade is different from yours? Hi Tropic, from the video it looks the same as What I bought in madpetz. each blade has 2 sharp lengths which u can rotate to use. very thin blade, thinner than our older days blade for shaving. So I think when 1 side is blunt, u can switch over to other side. I saw the comment on YouTube tat only use on glass tank. So I believe mine also for glass tank only. Hi Djvin, actually I find tat it is the best maintenance equipment ever invented. normally when u use those long stick scraper, u are standing up n head bend down to look at the algae to scrape off. So shoulder n neck ache n exhausted. everytime clean halfway u want to eat snake a bit. With this, I just cleaned my 3 sides bottom part of tank within 30mins at most. and totally cleaned. Thanks for sharing with me. Quote Tank size:36"x36"x24" Return pump" 2x Reef Octo 5000 Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted July 26, 2012 Author SRC Member Share Posted July 26, 2012 I didn't know there was a video on this! Lol I just didn't want to spoil my piranha algae cleaner..so tried it on the cheaper algae cleaner:) and it worked! hope this help reefers!! accidentally found on YouTube. did video how the scraper does on my tank but got problem uploading it. So just humtam n search on YouTube. am surprise the guy demo on such thick coralline algae n it work. Hi kaykay, if u have those coralline algae at bottom of tank, u will like this as yr hand will not be wet at all. 30mins is my own estimation. arms n shoulder ain't tired at all after 30mins. but if u use the stick scraper, I think after 30mins u be exhausted. Try it out. Hi tropic, u r quite right abt this. previously it's messy n tiring to clean these type of algae. now this job is a breeze n only tiring job is water change now.
