Can I use 2-week old salt mixed water bought from LFS?

Bought extra for wc a fortnight ago.

Today I wanna do wc again. Can I use this "aged" water?

It's still kept in the original plastic bag sealed, kept in a cool dry place.

Btw it's salt mixed, not NSW.

If in doubt, test it. IMO, better of kept aerated and not left in the sealed bag.

Well, I took it out of the container (still bagged) and saw white precipitation in the bag.

Don't know if it's salt crystallization or what.. So decided not to use.

the white stuff is fine, just shake it up abit.. I'm using red sea salt mix, after mix i store them inside 1.5L bottles.. after 3 days or so, there will be white undissolved stuff.. just shake abit n all gone..

The white things are probably calcium precipitate.

Salt mix is fine.no issues as there is no containment of live bacteria.U should not throw it away.Store in a cool area and u are ready to use it again on your next water change.

Just aerate the water before using? If you think about it, your tank also contains 2 weeks old salt mix.

Must the salt mix water be aerated? Cos I had just started cycling my tank last Friday and I had pre-mix a tank of salt mix water kept in a covered plastic container.

With the above advice from the various bros, aerating seems to be critical while holding the salt mix in storage.

Real estate space is quite premium in my house. The price to pay for holding water at home is a piece of nagging everyday!! Hahaha!!

Hence I'll prefer to do fresh mix whenever I can.

Fresh mix is preferred to aerate for 24 to 48 hours to introduce co2 to bring down the ph levels a little, stabilising the ph. That's why I got an extra skimmer to do just that, haha

Bro I keep my salt mix water from AM in big containers for weekly change. Each bottle last about a month no issue. I don't think NSW can keep that long unless u aerate it

Bro Raymond, so u are the guy with yr kid at iwarna. Nice avatar. Speaking on personal experience, I do keep nsw for a month without aeration and use them. However, my tank is 4ft with 4ft sump. Hence the water chge is only ard 25l as compared to my tank of ard 800l. Therefore, the impact is not great. For small tank, water chge tends to have greater impact due to water volume. That is the result why ppl say big tank is easier to maintain as compared to small tank. For your reference.

What about NSW? How long can we keep?
